Wallace
Waverly is a sheltered, high functioning mentally challenged 38-year-old man
who has lived with his mother all his life. Upon her death, Wallace finds
himself alone and lonesome, rattling around in mom's big, old Victorian
home. Everything around him reminds him of the emptiness and sadness he
feels, and he proudly declines help from concerned neighbors and friends. An
odd, socially inept man, Wallace thinks he can take care of himself, and
goes about trying to make sense of his new, very quiet, lonesome world.
Wallace's days now consist of playing ragtime on the family piano and gazing
out the front window. One day, as he browses through the personal section of
a newspaper he sees an ad that reads: “Lonely? Need Love? Call 1-900-HOT
BABES.” Wallace, taking the ad literally, dials the number and meets
Tiffany, the 900 sex-line operator he encounters. It’s a call that will
change both of their lives.
“My Name is Wallace,” while a sweet and touching
comedy, is also a story of personal salvation, and is a very different kind
of love story.
