Andy is a successful psychiatrist who, as he nears 50, has had a glimpse of old age. On this evening, he and his partner, Tim, an artists agent, are scheduled to attend the opening of Tim's latest up-and-coming artist, but Andy, awakening to this new phase in his life, doesn't want to go, and he uses, as an excuse, his Aunt Eleanor, who has been visiting; it's her last night with them. Tim, however, is oblivious to Andy's unwillingness to leave the house, not to mention the greater changes in his life, and the tension builds as Sam, the artist, arrives and Eleanor brings out the “surprise” she’s spent all day making for them.
