Filmmaker Bio:

Filmmaker and songwriter Ken Glaser produces short films on a variety of subjects. Unified by his enthusiastic approach to the art form, Ken’s films combine uncommon visuals, a minimal use of dialogue, and original soundtracks. Ken’s early productions were school projects -- Super 8 silent movies often featuring stop-action animation or a separate soundtrack on reel-to-reel audiotape. After focusing on music for years, he returned to film, and now shoots and edits in digital video. Enjoying every aspect of filmmaking, Ken generally writes, films, edits, and scores the videos himself.

Five videos comprise his current portfolio:

I Dream In Stereo is a multi-layered music video that brings to life a song Ken wrote about the sonic aspects of dreaming. The video combines stop-motion animation, full-motion video clips and overlays, still photos, and text to create an absorbing, light-hearted blend. (Music Video, 4 min 00 sec, 2007)

Doppler Effect is a unique look at the art of drumming. Ken was filmed performing a percussion accompaniment to an energetic, polyrhythmic instrumental track he had written and recorded beforehand. The unusual locations in which Ken performs the on-camera drumming give this film its identity. (Music video, 3 min 50 sec, 2005)

Organism is a film that highlights one of nature’s most playful and curious displays. Ken captured a lengthy avian spectacle in the skies over Diamond Bar, CA. Employing kinetic camerawork, tight editing, and an ethereal soundtrack, Ken was able to craft a hypnotic, magical film. (Short film, 8 min 20 sec, 2005)

Turntable Illusions is a black-and-white, op-art composition. Using a low-tech source -- images from a book entitled “Turntable Illusions” -- Ken created a high-tech video. Ken synchronized the spinning patterns to one of his progressive rock instrumentals to achieve a unique (perhaps "dizzying”) synthesis. (Short film, 6 min 35 sec, 2005)

Frisco: City In Motion is a surreal short film that highlights the kinetic nature of San Francisco's landmarks. Part travelogue, part music video, and part comedy, the video is notable for its unusual scene transitions and special effects that complement the vivid scenes. (Short film, 8 min 20 sec, 2003)

On the music front, two of Ken’s latest songs -- Logical Conclusion and For A Day -- have been licensed by director Nanette Burstein for her upcoming film “American Shopper,” scheduled for release in Spring 2007. (In these songs, Ken sings all the vocals and plays all the instruments.)
