Geometry

Gay/Lesbian

Director: Nina Gielen

Run Time: 14 mins

Synopsis:

Geometry is a narrative short film about loneliness and misdirected desire, in which a woman12 at odds with the world unexpectedly falls for an old friend's teenage daughter. Rather than showing personal growth or change, this is a film primarily about stasis, filled with moments of awkwardness. The basic idea was to depict a character who, in spite of her questionable behavior, evokes viewers’ sympathy--even while bordering on the comically pathetic. Unlike more conventional heterosexual Lolita scenarios, stories describing boys “coming of age” with older women, and narratives involving boys and older men, this struck me as a story that has rarely (if ever) been treated. This is a student film project, made in cooperation with New School University.
