I Don't Know Jack

Category: Documentary Feature 1hr 31min
Director: Christopher Leavens

Jack Nance, made famous in the David Lynch's first film 'Eraserhead' lived a life which baffled his friends, relatives and some say himself. This is a fascinating documentary on the life, career and brutal death of the pop cult icon, Jack Nance. First time 24 year old director was quoted as saying, 'Often the death of a Hollywood celebrity gives the media another opportunity to create immortal and exploitative myths. Jack became written off as a derelict, troublesome alcoholic who dabbled in the world of films in between drinking binges and fights. By keeping things and not exaggerating an already mystified story, this documentary helps to paint a true picture of a cult icon.' Fortunately, there is also much humor in anecdotes from Nance himself, his family and friends. David Lynch's touching and insightful stories are woven between other poignant interviews with Dennis Hopper, Catherine Coulson, Jack's first wife (TWIN PEAKS Log Lady), Charlotte Stewart and many others. 'I suppose '53' is a young age to die,' says Lynch. 'Jack didn't think he'd last that long. Nor did his friends. I had many future roles in my head for Jack. Now I can not think of anyone that could fill his shows.' There is much we learn about this enigmatic actor and his untimely donut shop death. How Lynchian can you get--an unsolved homicide!
