A contemplative
and subtle contribution to the genre of American road movies,
Miles From Nowhere, quietly reveals the depth of the bond
between adoptive brothers as they struggle to understand both
themselves and their past. Gram (Marc Weitz), a gifted
violinist who keeps to himself and his violin, is convinced by
his adopted brother Josh (Tony Roach) to help him steal his car,
break his bail agreement and spend their final college spring
break on an adventure across America. Along the way,
characters emerge from the landscape presenting obstacles and
offering wisdom. Unexpected events leave the
brothers traveling on foot through the wide open spaces of a
majestic and empty countryside. The vastness of the
abandoned and forgotten land they discover mirrors the emotional
distance between them and gradually encourages them to look at
the silent loneliness of their own lives. In the end, they
are presented with choices, the consequences of which will
alter their relationship forever.

A collaboration between first-time feature director David Pope
and first-time writer/producer Ted Timmer, Miles From Nowhere,
was beautifully filmed in over a hundred locations from New York
to Las Vegas in the spring of 1999 and 2000. It features
the debut feature performances of actors Tony Roach and Marc
Weitz and a supporting cast that includes Dennis Reid, Caren
Browning, Jason Fisher, Rebecca Ortese, Vincent Sagona, Laurie
Lefever and Al Timmer II. Also making her debut is Cho Oyu,
a black Lab who loves road trips.
