Moments Out Of Control

North America Premiere
Category: Documentary Short  47minc
Director: Katrin Huckfeldt

There are at least forty different forms of epilepsy and various reasons that can trigger an epileptic seizure: stress or anxiety. Sometimes being afraid of a seizure is already enough … Marno (28) is a musician and has moved to Berlin recently. He has epilepsy and his seizures accumulate whenever other problems stress him intensively: he needs an apartment, a job, money and his lover Barbara, is staying 800km away in Salzburg . When Marno looses his job as a piano-teacher at a music-school because of an epileptic fit that he got in a lesson of his he is very frustrated. Suddenly he realizes that there is a connection between his inner anger and frustration and his ever accumulating seizures… Michael (48) has come to Berlin in order to get rid of his epilepsy. The Center for Epilepsy is his only chance: pharmaceutical medications don´t work for him and he hopes to be able to get the epileptic focus in his brain removed surgically. But first the doctors have to do a number of tests with him …  Epilepsy is an illness that shows how body and soul interact. And then there is the question of the inner and outer view: what is it like to loose control over yourself – and what is it like to have to watch and not being able to do anything?
