Runaway Poles is a
comedy about a man who talks to imaginary people. Poles Mobley
is a lonely man wandering around a small town talking to
imaginary people. Some of the local townspeople have accepted
Poles introducing his make-believe friends to them. One day,
while sitting at a park bench talking to one of his imaginary
friends, Poles meets a real woman named Malley Hopper. Poles is
very nervous and shy toward Malley at first, but soon feels non
threatened by her presence and becomes friends with her. Little
does Poles know, Malley Hopper is a journalist for the local
newspaper and is secretly following Poles around to get an
interesting story for her paper. We soon learn that Malley is
married to an unfaithful husband named Brad who is having an
affair. We also meet Poles next door neighbor Simon, a depressed
giant who loses his job. Simon has learned to accept Poles’
imaginary people as factual. Same with another friend of
Poles’, Mr. Litvack is an African-American cowboy who believes
he’s God’s gift to women. At the end of the story, we
discover why Poles talks to imaginary people.
