Spooklight

Spooklight

Category: Narrative Short 20mins
Director: Ken Teutsch

In the South, what is a place but the sum of its stories? "Spooklight" is set in a small Arkansas town that used to have one claim to fame: a ghostly light along the railroad outside town. The story goes that the light is the lantern of a decapitated brakeman from years gone by. But times change. The town is disappearing. The kids have found other diversions. The tracks are gone; torn up and sold for scrap. There are no brakemen anymore. But Curtis Tate is never discouraged in his search for things others cannot see or hear, even when he can't see or hear them himself. When he finds out that a national magazine has run an article about ghostly lights without mentioning their town's Headless Brakeman, the only thing that outrages him more is that no one is outraged but him. Curtis' pal, Noel, has a fool-proof system for beating the Louisiana lottery. Unfortunately it isn't also idiot-proof. Broken by cruel fate and blotto on antiseptic, Noel is crushed until a television program about real live ghosts gives him an idea of how to turn Curtis' irritating stories into cold cash. So Curtis and Noel head into the woods to solve the mystery of the Spooklight. Each is looking for something different, but neither one is ready when what they are looking for comes looking for them. "Spooklight" shows what happens when the ignorant meet the Unknown
