Director - Sherri Larsen FOUND is an experimental film documenting the process of digging through the treasures of other peoples' past lives from the point of view of a complete stranger. I began with a collection of 1000 reels of home movies culled from online auctions and wanted to create a new document out of these materials. But the process of viewing this footage caused me so many ethical questions, like: 'What would these people think of me using their movies?' and 'Why have so many thousands been abandoned like this?' The experience was haunting and I chose to present that subjective, internal process through the soundtrack, while the visuals seek to organize all of this information: first all the types people in home movies, then focus on the older matrons, then the new wives and young mothers, then just the girls, and finally my own home movies (shown in reverse). Because there were no easy answers to the many questions that arose, I choose to let the questions hang unanswered and allow the viewers to draw their own conclusions. Going through the images and lives of strangers felt eerie at first, but eventually became a challenge just to maintain a working 8mm projector. In the end, a dozen beleaguered projectors paid the ultimate price with their lives. Principle Cast: |
